There's one thing I don't miss about having little ones in school ... the frantic mornings.
Someone not being able to find a shoe. A permission slip that apparently needed to be signed yesterday. Realizing we were supposed to bring something for the class when we were already halfway out the door.
And then there was me.
Usually the very last person I thought about getting ready.
I wish I had designed our larger Blanket Coats back then.
Not because I needed another beautiful thing in my closet. I needed something I could throw over whatever I happened to be wearing at 7:42 in the morning and suddenly look like I had made a decision.
Pajamas? Fine.
Jeans and yesterday's shirt? Fine.
Hair doing something completely independent of me? Also fine.
Put on the coat.
I think that's one of the things I love most about these bigger shapes. They do a lot of the work for you. They're generous and easy and interesting enough that whatever is underneath almost doesn't matter.
They would have been my drop-off coat.
And then, because motherhood rarely lets you go home and peacefully get dressed after drop-off, they would have become my grocery-store coat. My coffee-with-another-mom coat. My field-trip coat. My freezing-classroom coat. My I forgot I volunteered for this coat.
There are seasons of life when getting dressed gets to be creative and leisurely.
And there are seasons when everyone needs something from you before you've even had coffee.
I remember that season.
I also remember how much better I felt when I managed to put on something that felt like me. Not dressed up. Not trying too hard. Just a little more pulled together. A little more intentional. A little less like I had disappeared somewhere underneath everybody else's morning.
That's what this edit is about.
Big, beautiful, easy layers for the school-year shuffle. The kind you keep by the door and throw on without thinking .... and somehow look like you did.
The Back to School Edit goes live Thursday, September 3rd at 7:30 pm cst.
For drop-off, field trips, cold classrooms, grocery runs, and all the places you end up going after you said, “I'll get dressed when I get home.”
And yes, you can absolutely still be wearing your pajamas underneath.
