Layering Season

Layering Season

Layering season is here, and I'm a fan.
Wearing multiple pieces of clothing at the same time isn't everyone's cup of tea.  When my son was in middle school his uniform included an undershirt, a button down shirt, tie, and sports coat.  Getting ready in the morning took forever - no doubt he was stalling. "Three layers" he would groan and pull at his collar and neck tie.  The minute he got into the car at the end of the day - "layers" were shed.
I'm the opposite - "three layers" sounds stylish and cozy to me.  Layering was something that I kept in mind when we were working on our Blanket Coat shapes. I wanted our Original, Slim, and Slim Shorts to be a fun outer layer than didn't constrict.  I get annoyed in cold weather when I have to take off my coat when getting into my car to drive.  I wanted to be able to drive with my seatbelt on while wearing my outfit and not feel trapped.

Our smaller coats (Mid, Mini, and Crop) were meant to be layered as well.  The Mid thrown on over leggings, the Mini and Crop can easily be carried into a restaurant and worn as a shrug when the air conditioning is too much.

A styled layered look is incredibly cool in my opinion.  It gives you a chance to take risks and to be creative when you dress. Incorporating pieces from your summer wardrobe into a look for cooler weather is unexpected and fun.  I find myself complimenting those who pull off the layered look and taking mental notes on how I could recreate the look myself.

Our model in this shoot styled her outfit.  I would not have considered a linen vest as the foundation for a layered day look - but she did and I'm obsessed.  Relaxed denim, a summer vest, a Mid Style Blanket Coat - worn with kitten heel mules and accessorized with her own sunglasses.  Watching her being photographed I found myself thinking through my own closet to pull together a similar look.

Cooler weather is approaching  and I'm noticing layers on the runway and in street styles. I hope the trend makes it all the way to Round Top this October.  I'm ready to be inspired by our already fashion forward customers.
