Sapana's Six Shapes

Sapana's Six Shapes

Let’s Talk About Coat Shapes (And Why I Finally Filmed This)

I realized something recently.

We talk about textiles all the time.
We talk about Kantha.
We talk about vintage, stitching, color and story.

But we don’t always talk clearly about shape.

And shape matters.

Because two people can try on the exact same Blanket Coat and love it or leave it ... simply because of the silhouette.

So this week, I made two videos explaining our core coat shapes:

Original, Slim, Slim Short, Mid, Mini, Crop.

Nothing new about these shapes at the moment.  I only wanted to offer some clarity so you can confidently choose your silhouette.

Why I’m Doing This

Over the years, we’ve refined our shapes intentionally.

Some of you want length and drama.
Some want proportion.
Some want something that hits right at the hip and feels modern.
Some want ease without volume.

And I don’t want you guessing online.
I don’t want you wondering, “Is this too long on me?” or “Will this overwhelm my frame?”

When you understand the silhouette, you understand the styling.

And when you understand the styling, you wear the piece more.

Why Shape Changes Everything

The textile tells the story.
The shape determines how you live in it.

A longer coat can feel romantic and grounded - dramatic and present - or cozy.
Our shorter coats can feel architectural and fresh.

The same Kantha can have a completely different energy depending on the shape.

That’s what I hope these videos help explain.

(Then there is the weight of the Kantha to consider - but one step at a time!)

Watch the Videos

Here are two videos breaking down each silhouette/shape what makes them different and how they fit.

If you’ve ever wondered, “Wait… am I a Slim? A Mid? Is the Crop too short for me?” ... start here, it’ll help.

Once you understand the shapes, everything gets easier.

Sapana has always been about honoring the textile and our makers.

But shape?
Shape is about honoring your personal style.

And that's important to me too!
